Portfolio 2026

Bart van Mourik

Industrial product designer with a practical focus on furniture, mobility, craftsmanship, and hands-on prototyping for BM Klusservice.

This portfolio brings together custom-built interiors, sustainable product redesign, urban mobility concepts, internship work at Planq, and smaller craft-based projects.

Selected work

Project 01

Custom Cabinet

Focus
Storage, fit, fabrication
Output
Built custom cabinet

A custom cabinet made for an awkward space in a small apartment, designed as one place for personal belongings. The U-shaped layout works like a walk-in closet without needing a separate room, so every item can be reached from one standing position.

Project 02

Sustainable Cycle Computer

Focus
Energy use, repairability
Output
LED display + NFC concept

This redesign investigated the sustainability of a cycle computer and identified the LCD screen as the least efficient component. Replacing it with a low-energy LED display keeps speed and odometer data visible, while an NFC chip connects to a smartphone for additional functions.

Project 03

Urban Mobile Workstation

Focus
Urban mobility, tool storage
Output
Electric workstation bike

For the Urban Mobility minor, I developed a vehicle concept for a handyman in a dense city environment: a bike that also functions as a mobile workspace. Tools are stored inside the bike, and the top surface becomes a stable workbench.

Compared with a van, the concept avoids parking fees, fuel costs, and restricted access zones. The electric motor helps the user move quickly through traffic without arriving tired.

Internship

Planq

During my internship at Planq, I worked on hands-on projects combining design, craftsmanship, and sustainable material development. Work included custom showroom cabinets in London and Gorinchem, reinforcing a structural issue in a chair, and material tests to increase the amount of waste material that could be integrated into Planq products.
